Working this project was a lesson in personal growth. Trying to meld my ideas and usual practices with the basic guidelines that were randomly selected for me has been a joy and a curse, a pleasure and an ordeal. The positives arose each time I went to the studio to begin work, head full of creative ideas to put into form. The curse and the ordeal followed shortly after when the ideas I had created either fell apart or did not follow the suggestions in my outline. Things like "muted" and "pastel" and the use of words were not a part of my repertoire. Even dealing with the word "manifesto-based" became a barrier in my head and procrastination reigned. Determined this would not bury me, I finally chose a personal manifest to overcome the block. So "Procrastination No More" was born. I have combined encaustic wax, acrylic paint, acrylic medium, birchbark, stone, fabric, cardboard, gold thread and wool-roving to show the artist making the long climb to the summit, passing the barriers inscribed in the hillocks and becoming focused by the rings of light that will keep her from finding reasons to procrastinate. It has been a learning blast. Contact Information [email protected] |
