Passionate about kayaking in the great Canadian Shield, camera and sketchbook in tow, I find life-energy and creative inspiration in this primal space - especially the granite outcrops. I am moved by the fact that these rocks are three billion years old, and some of the first rocks to form on earth. I am interested in what rocks – at once extraordinary and completely ordinary - have to say about foundation, permanence and longevity. These rocks have survived all the odds and when in their presence I am reminded that my own time is fleeting and vulnerable. The acrylic element also speaks to permanence and longevity though in an unsettling way. Current research indicates that every piece of plastic we have made is still on the planet and will be here in perpetuity. Forevermore. Thank you for inviting me to be part of this challenging and inspiring journey. You got me out from under my rock! A nod of gratitude to the incredibly generous people at AssentWorks who guided me through technical portions of the artwork and to all the wonderful people who provided feedback and consultation throughout this journey.
