I chose to make my work about our government’s proposed “Anti-Terrorism Act”, Bill C-51. As initially formulated it would have targeted any protest held without an official permit. Although the wording has been changed slightly to address that concern, there is still broad opposition to the bill on the grounds (among others) that it is too far-reaching, infringes upon constitutional rights, does not add anything to the security provided by current laws, and does not provide for adequate oversight of its implementation. In trying to combat terrorism the bill has cast too wide a net. This project presented an interesting challenge. Usually I start with an idea and adopt a form that suits it. In this project I struggled with accommodating all the formal stipulations in a cohesive representation of one idea. While working as a family doctor, I pursued my interest in art by attending the University of Manitoba, earning a BFA Honours in 2008. Artmaking is my attempt to give emotions and ideas a physical reality. I am interested in what underlies the surface of things. I make paintings and prints to come to a deeper understanding of our social, political, psychological and natural world. Contact Information n[email protected] www.norakobrinsky.com |
