This project, the parameters of which were new to me, was challenging. I took apart a rotting plywood sheet found in my back lane and collaged it back together using wood found on my family farm, a ruined skiff from the West coast of Ireland and driftwood found on a rocky beach in Northern Iceland. A few rusty nails, beeswax and string pulled it together. It felt like a raft, a raft of memories - but I don’t think it would float too long. I started out as a printmaker but for the past eight years have been mainly using the encaustic medium. I’m really affected by the weather and often make pieces which describe the effects of it, both on the landscape and on people (our interior weather so to speak). Even though my work is often somber and quiet, I take delight in the making of each piece. Contact Information [email protected] |
