As a figurative artist I have lived in Gillam, Manitoba, for the last five years. I am a self-taught artist and have been painting for more than 25 years. Over the years I have sold numerous portraits and paintings in various mediums, usually on commission. I am inspired by what moves me on a spiritual/emotional level and I work to communicate this in my art. Often I am drawn to paint my family as they are my greatest inspiration. This time I chose to paint my daughter when she was four years old. Sarah was named after the Stevie Nicks song of the same name. The title “The Poet in My Heart” is taken from that song and it expresses my feelings perfectly. The theme of flight was fitting because Sarah is a pilot and has worked as a flight instructor. She is now working as a mother of two. Among the words/phrases I was given as a challenge, were “digital art” and “collaborate with another artist”. I chose to collaborate with my sister, Jodi Richardson, Nova Scotia. She digitally created the angel you see in the close-up and allowed me to use the image, which I colored digitally, in my painting. Her work can be viewed at Elfrichardson Creations on Facebook and at www.redbubble.com. Another phrase I was given was “self-generated text” which you can see in the second close-up.
