In The Beginning... I went to a bible study where they served burritos in the making for lunch. Listening to a discussion of ideas - references and reverences of who God is... "God is a Burrito" was born. Exploring screens and moire patterns, I collaged found objects, using inventive ways to attach them to screens. Hats off to Arts Junktion! I found a 2.5 foot transparent plastic mould and drew a map of Germany, birthplace of my collaborating poet, Charles Bukowski, on her belly. She added stability to the very thick, painting-like sculpture, enabling it to stand on its own. A candle cradled inside the wired form flickered gently, lending some great photography opportunities. I printed the images on a laser printer and then pasted the black and white inked paper onto a homemade canvas of screen and plastic moulding; attached a few objects, added a little bit of graphite, and dripped paint in Jackson Pollock style. I work intuitively, and I loved working on this piece. The parameters of the project took me into new grounds which I will continue to explore. “Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” Plutarch Contact Information [email protected] |
