This project was very challenging and frustrating at times. A New Beginning is about choices and decisions being made. The legend of the Selkie tells of the Selkie (Seal) rising up out of the sea at sunset and shedding their pelts and walk as humans until sunrise when they must return to the sea or walk as humans forever. A choice has been made to leave the life, rejecting her lover and this life for "A New Beginning" with hope and light in her heart. Brenda was born and raised in Winnipeg and moved to the Gypsumville, St. Martin area of Manitoba in 2002. Finding life less hectic in the country Brenda started a new hobby, painting. She is a self-taught artist who paints not only landscapes, but florals, portraits and still life. After a mentorship with Shirley Brown, Brenda discovered she had an interest in "fantasy" and began researching and exploring art based on Celtic folklore, fairies, selkies, mermaids and sirens. Brenda's preferred medium is Acrylic, She attends workshops in her community and participates in the Regional Juried Art Shows. Brenda shows her work in local and group shows in Manitoba.
