Much of my work in recent years has involved the transformation of found objects - objects or materials that readily suggest a history, an age, and that carry an undeniable energy. Although other things were tried or contemplated, I kept coming back to Realistic Miss Pretty which was offered to me one day by a friend. It is loaded with a history that will remain silent, but I can say that it belonged to the mother of a very prominent Winnipegger from our cultural community! It spoke to me of youth long past, and yet as I age and accept the reality of life’s stages there continues to be a very simple, sweet desire to still look “pretty”, at least on a public stage. So for now, the nails will be manicured, the hair will be cut and dyed regularly, the face cream applied faithfully, and yes a little mascara and lipstick can’t hurt!!!
