I embraced art in secondary school. Later, taking an Introduction to Painting course at the Brandon Art Gallery cemented my dedication to the visual arts. My early works of pencil sketching led me to painting with acrylics, where I've been able to amass a body of work for my first public art show. Although I work in acrylics, I like to experiment with other mediums and different techniques, changing it up quite frequently. My work is inspired by other artists, music and books. Recently I have focused on the human form and expression of the body in motion. In this piece I tried to express my inner self in a graphic representation, taking all the facets that make up who I am; my musical background, my visual arts, my home, what makes me; and let them out to be seen. I found it challenging when I was restricted to one colour and my least favorite at that. Being pulled out of my comfort zone and having to do the whole project in different shades of blue was daunting at first, but then the project came more easily and in the end it came out quite well.
