I found this assignment not only intriguing but a great lesson in problem solving. I based my piece on a collaboration with a fellow artist, Karen Mackrae. She showed me how to make Japanese fish prints one lovely summer afternoon. This not only covered the collaboration criteria but also my colour guidelines, black and white. Next I copied and reduced my fish and overlay-ed them in a asymmetrical design over a piece of sheet music. Which added dimension and created flow (pardon the pun) . The "found text" came from a novel by Rachel Carson "Silent Spring" a controversial environmental classic based on the impact of fertilizers and pesticides. Then finally, I sealed the piece with beeswax in addition to acting as a protector-ant, it created a liquid texture and added mystery. Monique has always drawn with graphite, charcoal and coloured pencil. During the last couple years she has been painting with acrylic. Monique has been painting "what she knows - Flin Flon". She has lived in the north most of her life and the older Monique gets, the more appreciative she is of the area. Contact Information [email protected] |
